Global warming facts - True facts or just a scary story?

Many people are still finding it hard to believe that there is global warming phenomenon happening and increasing with each new day. There are even large number of people believing that if there really exists phenomenon like climate change and global warming that this is not happening because of us but this is some natural cycle that can't be avoided. Well, if we look at the current facts we can see that a large number of scientists really believes there is a man-made global warming phenomenon caused by excessive greenhouse gas emissions due to ever increasing use of fossil fuels. There are some studies that say otherwise but currently there are lot more evidences and facts suggesting how there really is a man made global warming.

Climate change triggered by global warming looks to be the biggest threat to the life of our planet as we know it, and if temperatures continue to rise we could be in really big problems. Talks about new climate deal have never been so serious and if everything goes well in the end of this year we could even see a brand new climate deal that would be much more efficient than the really never existing Kyoto protocol. So it looks like even politics has started taking things much more seriously.

Global warming deniers mostly say how this is some sort of conspiracy that was created by Al Gore and the group of eco scientists but what use would they have from inventing such scary story? And do you really think that politicians would put so much emphasis on decreasing use of fossil fuels to stop global warming impact if this was really just a scary story, especially knowing how powerful oil lobbies and other fossil fuels sectors are?

If you look at all the latest reports you can see a variety of different facts suggesting how global warming actually exists, melting on Arctic and Antarctica, extremely high temperatures in many parts of the world because of the highest ever levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, more frequent extreme weather events, and many other things. Unless our global policy changes very soon polar bears will not be only animals heading for extinction, and weather on our planet will not be as friendly as we used to have.

It is not just enough to diagnose the problem, world needs to look for possible solutions to save it. New climate deal definitely looks to be the step in the right way, of course if world decides to go for more serious cuts in greenhouse gases. As we are running out of time we are also running out of solutions and immediate action is something that could really mean the difference between success and failure in fight against climate change.

Global warming is multidimensional problem

Global warming is by far the biggest ecological problem world has ever faced with, and upcoming climate change could cause whole variety of other problems that could make life close to impossible in many corners of the world. What can world do the prevent the worst possible scenario?

Once our planet's average temperature reaches point of no return (scientists believe this is increase of 2 degree Celsius) we will be heading towards a real catastrophe, not only the environmental catastrophe, but the catastrophe of far greater magnitude. Combination of frequent floods, droughts, major storms, and possibility of new diseases could soon become our reality unless we make drastic changes. We all know that key to avoid the worst of global warming is to curb greenhouse gas emissions. But how to achieve this? World is still dependent on fossil fuels, and renewable energy sector is still thousands of miles away from becoming competitive energy source on global scale.

World needs energy every day, and life without energy is something that many of us can't even imagine. It is not just the industry that needs energy, energy demand affects us all, for instance imagine the life without electricity at your disposal - it would seem like returning to middle age. The demand for energy is also ever-increasing, as the world population grows so does our need for even more energy, and more energy (with current available technologies) means more emissions, and more impact to global warming and climate change.

Many years will pass before we see renewable energy sector strong enough to satisfy significant percentage of world's total energy demand, and in the meantime we have to find the solution for the question of the year - "how to satisfy ever-increasing energy demand, and in the same time significantly reduce global CO2 emissions?".
We will definitely have to implement some new technologies like for instance carbon capture and storage technology (CSS), and in the same time we will have to work on different methods to significantly improve the efficiency of fossil fuels fired power plants. This is where science needs to step in and make the difference because we have really reached the point where only science can save us. Why science? Because other alternative means relying on politics, and you probably know
just how long it takes for politics to agree on simple decision, and in this case we are talking about one decision of gigantic proportions that should include whole world, and politicians from all nations. So my pick is definitely a science. If politics actually does something important for a change then this will really be mother of all surprises, especially if we look at the certain previous failures (Kyoto protocol).

We know what we have to do to stop global warming and climate change - reduce greenhouse gas emissions. What we don't know is the proper way to achieve this. How to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and in the same time ensure ever-rising energy demand with such a negligible use of renewable energy sources? And of course, global warming is global problem which means it has to be solved on global level, therefore it needs to include all nations. It is hard enough just for two countries to reach a certain agreement, and in this case we are talking about the whole world, with bunch of different political aims and interests that need to be sorted before the final conclusion/decision. Science is really our last hope, and I really hope science has something ready in case political miracle doesn't happen and world fails to agree upon new Kyoto protocol.

Global warming articles - Still not doing enough

You can find whole variety of different global warming articles on the web but this is still not enough to hurry politicians into immediate action against global warming and climate change. Scientists, together with us environmentalists, are constantly warning politicians that time is running up but that doesn't seem to bother them, especially now in times of recession. Revive economy or save the planet? It should be very easy to choose the priority with the help of common logic but politics is not the game of logic but of interests, and therefore economy is more important than our planet.

It is very hard to keep the hope all the time. I mean writing all these global warming articles and pointing out to the climate change problem and the danger it brings is not that difficult, but being disappointed time and time again once it comes down to politics is one hard pill to swallow, especially since you have to take it every now and then.

Don't get me wrong, it is good that many people can learn about global warming and climate change from all these articles, but it is definitely not good that politicians couldn't care less about what's happening with our planet. There are some people who expected immediate miracles from president Obama but in politics miracles do not happen overnight. Especially since there are so many different interests from so many different sectors, all wanting certain exception and benefits. Though global warming is global problem that needs to be solved on global level, regional interests are still mighty strong and this delays necessary action. Perhaps politicians still live in past years were very few problems were global, and most of them could be solved on regional level. Current trend of globalization has changed this concept, and global warming is no exception, after all like its name suggests this is global problem.

But despite the general lack of enthusiasm that politics is constantly showing when addressing different environmental issues, we still need to continue our work and show people why global warming deserves much more attention. More global warming articles means more public attention, and more public attention means more pressure on politicians to do things right. So make sure to spread the word, and let everyone know about not only climate change and global warming, but also of all other environmental problems because people must know all about this tremendous environmental mess we live in.

Connection between global warming and droughts

There is major drop in rainfall in many parts of the world. For instance droughts in Australia are now lasting more than one decade, and there is also lengthy dry spell also in United States. Does this got to do with global warming? What is the connection between droughts and global warming?

The latest study carried out by Peter Baines of Melbourne University in Australia, who analyzed global rainfall observations, sea surface temperature data as well as a reconstruction of how the atmosphere has behaved over the past 50 years to reveal rainfall winners and losers, has revealed that global warming shares more than a third (37 percent) of blame for a major drop in rainfall.

This percentage looks big but if current warming trend continues this will seem very small to what might happen. Many scientists agree that if current emissions continue massive droughts will threaten the lives of millions as they will take over half the land surface on our planet in less than 100 years from now. Warning signs are already there and world needs to act as quickly as possible.

Over the last 15 years rainfall has been steadily decreasing, and this trend will also continue in years to come if we do not stop global warming impact. With the fast growth of world population food shortage is big problem even without droughts, so you could imagine what will happen to international food supply if rainfall continues to decrease in years to come.

Global warming articles - The truth behind

If you type "global warming articles" into Google search engine you will see that there are more than 20 million results, this tells you how much people are interested into global warming phenomenon. Global warming and climate change are the biggest problem we are facing today well at least this is what scientists say. There are of course still some that do not believe in global warming and they look at it like some crazy invented thing made by Al Gore, and bunch of scientists. But why would scientists lie? What benefit would they have from lying? Absolutely none, well at least I don't see one. Facts and data obtained by different measuring and observation methods confirm that our planet is indeed warming. And warming really fast. Majority of scientists agree that this is due to increased greenhouse gases concentration in the atmosphere so now world looks for a solution to significantly decrease carbon emissions. Even United States and China have started working together which really shows seriousness of global warming problem.

So what is the truth behind global warming articles? Why are so many of them on the web? It is not because we want to scare people with stories about catastrophic future, what we want to do is give people not only something to think about but most importantly something that will change their way of thinking so they will luckily realize that all future life on Earth could be in real jeopardy because of us. This should be emphasized in all global warming articles because as more people realize the seriousness of global warming problem the bigger pressure will be on politicians, and they will be forced to finally reach an international climate agreement.

There are more than 20 millions results for "global warming articles" on Google.

It looks like we could be not far away from new international agreement on climate change, especially now when China and United States are (seemingly) working together, but we were disappointed so many times by now that we are even afraid to hope. During George Bush period hope was covered with black veil of doubt, and though Obama started uncovering hope he still has a lot work ahead before this tiny hope turns into real thing. This time things should be much easier because not only public supports these changes but because world has Kyoto protocol as a very good remainder of past mistakes. And if world shows wisdom lot can be learned from these past mistakes.

And the number of global warming articles will likely rise even more on the web because even if world finally reaches proper international climate pact global warming still won't disappear because this is long and very slow process that takes lot of time. We are not able to stop global warming but we can slow it down, and equally important to adapt to changes that will come to global warming. Adapting to global warming will be particularly difficult in poor countries but hopefully developed countries will step in with their donations and help people that live in these countries. In any case there is so much to do, and so little time...
